Sometimes it just doesn’t work without it. Imagine life without coffee. Horrible, no? To ensure that you are not left out of coffee, we cannot do without transport and packaging. But we can do it environmentally friendly.<\/h3>\n<\/div>

From the tree to your cup

From the coffee cherry in Ethiopia to the deliciously smelling cappuccino in Switzerland, it’s a long way: The coffee is harvested, washed, processed, shipped, roasted, packed and then sent to you. Our principle is to always take into account social and environmental aspects as well as economic aspects in all these processing steps.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div>

What does this mean, concretely<\/h2><\/h2><\/div>

The cooperatives we work with can forego chemical fertilizers and pesticides because the coffee plant in Ethiopian mountain forests grows in its natural environment<\/a>. Irrigation is also not necessary. After harvesting, however, the coffee is washed and processed on site. A lot of water is needed for that. However, the farmers take care that the water used is fed back into the water cycle via a natural purification tank.<\/p>\n

The transport of green coffee from Limmu via Addis Ababa, Djibouti and Amsterdam to Switzerland naturally pollutes the environment. That is why we are in the process of calculating the total carbon footprint that our coffee produces on its way. This also includes, for example, the energy our roaster needs. Together with the NGO Green Ethiopia, we want to plant trees in Ethiopia to compensate for this footprint. Not in the coffee region itself, because there nature grows in all corners, but in the dry areas of the country, which suffer from erosion and droughts.<\/p>\n

Packaging and the garbage it causes is an important issue for us. So we decided to offer Nespresso\u00ae-compatible capsules – but only because our capsules are made of 100% biodegradable plastic. We have also found a resource-saving solution for the packaging of beans, ground coffee, cold brew pads and capsules, which comes completely without aluminium <\/a> – our innovative coffee envelop enables us eco-friendlier shipping.
